Davao-Muntinlupa encounter called off due to heavy rains

ORGANIZERS called off the Davao-Muntinlupa game and the rest of the matches set Thursday in the 2nd Philippine Olympic Festival football tournament at the Philsports Complex due to heavy rains.

Davao Football Association (DFA) secretary Erwin Protacio said top officials are still meeting on how to go about the cancelled games Friday.

"We are still waiting for development," Protacio said.

The Davao U-15 team was set to grab its third straight win in bracket A of the bootfest after winning against Camarines Norte, 1-0, and Negros Occidental, 3-0 in past outings.

The Davao U-17, meanwhile, held a two-win, one-loss record after a 5-2 triumph over Parañaque and a 2-0 win against San Juan that withdrew from the tournament. The team's lost was at the hands of Iloilo squad.

Davao teams' stint in the meet was made possible by the support of Davao City councilors Bonifacio Militar, Mabel Acosta and Leo Avila, City administrator Atty. Wendel Avisado, Sports Development Division Chief Christopher "Bong' Go, Columbia manager Edward "Chaya" Lam and Emar Learning Center directress Mrs. Lita Montalban. (MLSA)
