GENERAL Santos and Cagayan de Oro teams are out to challenge Davao City bets in the Mindanao Ceelin Inter-School Swimming Competition slated Nov. 24 and 25 at the Woodridge Country Clubhouse in Maa.
Event director Darren Evangelista of the Evangelista Aquatics, Inc. said 14 schools from General Santos and four schools from Cagayan de Oro confirmed to join the two-day swimfest.
"Eight schools from Davao have signed up to join the competition including Ateneo de Davao, Holy Child, Davao Central High, Stella Maris and Davao Wisdom Academy, among others," Evangelista told members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) during their weekly forum at the Tower Inn Thursday.
He said a handful of public schools, like Sta. Ana National High School, are also seeing action in the tournament due to the minimal fee designed for them.
Evangelista said Koronadal will have yet to confirm its participation although eight or nine schools from there are also likely to participate.
Department of Education's Cesar Esmale will guest during the opening rites of the meet that will feature 15 years old and above, 14 years old, 13 years old, 12 years old, 11 years old, 10 years old, nine years old, eight years old, seven years old and six years old and under categories.
Evangelista said the top three swimmers in each event would receive gold, silver and bronze medals while the fourth and fifth placers will get ribbons. Trophies will be awarded to top teams. (MLSA)
