The partnership aims to open opportunities for the graduates of Tafe course in the Philippines to migrate, work or continue their studies in Australia.

This was reported by the Joji Ilagan Career Center Foundation, saying that the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was presented during the Global Filipino Networking Conference held at the Holiday Inn, Rooty Hill in Australia last month.

With the partnership, the Australian institute is expected to introduce selected Tafe courses in the Philippines. Tafe is the leading provider of technical vocational education in New South Wales in Australia.

"This is a welcome opportunity since this partnership between the Joji Ilagan Career Center and the Tafe will result to global training standards," Joji Ilagan Bian, chair of the Joji Ilagan Career Center, said, adding that the global standards could result in more job opportunities to the graduates in hotel and tourism management, hairdressing, and welding.

"The partnership is very important because this is another first in Mindanao, an indication of the high quality of manpower resource in the island," she said.

Most of the diploma courses being considered for delivery in the Philippines are those that will be awarded with 60 points for skills qualification under the qualifying skilled occupation list (SOL) for migration purposes.

The current tuition fees for overseas students for these courses in Australia range between A$14,500 to A$27,000 per year.
