PNG to be revived

IT'S the Philippine National Games, not the Mindanao Friendship Games, which will be revived next year, said Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William "Butch" Ramirez.

"The Mindanao Friendship Games (MFG) is my brainchild and it's past stagings have been very successful. It's a sports for peace program, an effort to unite Mindanoans through sports," Ramirez said.

But the PSC chief said while the MFG is a worthwhile project, he also acknowledges that it's not only Mindanoans who need unity but the entire country.

"We are not only commissioners for a city or a region but for the whole Philippines. If we continue with the MFG now, how about our countrymen from Visayas, Luzon and NCR?" Ramirez said.

"We are more optimistic on reviving the PNG. The previous PNG had produced athletes who formed part of the national teams," added Ramirez. (MLSA)
