In his short visit to the Beam office, Lapus expressed how impressed he was with how the project was helping DepEd improve the quality of and access to basic education of learners in Region 11, 12 and Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (Armm).

Secretary Lapus was accompanied by Australian Project Director Ian D'Arcy Walsh and DepEd 11 Regional Director and Beam Philippine Project Manager Susana Teresa B. Estigoy who briefed him on the various innovations and initiatives of the Beam aimed at assisting DepEd implement its Basic Education Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA).

"I am very impressed with the Beam Project and I want to make sure that all the achievements of Beam will be utilized and implemented across the rest of the country," Lapus said.

"“I hope that within the expanded support being given by the Australian Government to the Philippines that AusAid would extend the Beam Project well beyond its current phase," Lapus concluded.

The Beam project, which is about to enter its sixth year of existence, is a partnership between the Government of the Philippines and the Government of Australia with the grant funding support from Australia being provided by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAid) through its Australian managing contractor, Sinclair Knight Merz, with implementation being managed by the Department of Education through the Educational Development Project Implementing Task Force.
