THE PSC Youth Open Active Chess Championship will push through on December 15 at the Damosa Market Basket in Lanang.
Blue Knight Chess Club (BKCC) director Ronnie Tabudlong said Tuesday the one-day competition was reset from its earlier playing date upon the request of sponsoring Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Leon Gonzalo "Binggoy" Montemayor.
"It will be a five-round Swiss System format chessfest with a registration fee of P50 for every participant. Deadline of registration is on December 14," Tabudlong told Sun.Star Davao.
He said they expect 100 players seeing action in the event that stakes cash prizes to the top three chessers in the 18-under and 14-under categories.
Tabudlong said the 18-under champion will receive P3,000 while the runner-up and third placer will pocket P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.
Cash prizes of P2,000, P1,000 and P500 will be awarded to the first, second and third placers in 14-under. The best male and female performers will each receive P250.
The chessfest is sponsored by PSC in coordination with the Davao City Sports Council, Inc. (DCSCI).
