Dr. Cunanan remembered
By Carlo P. Mallo

CONSIDERED as one of the pillars of the medical industry in Mindanao, Dr. Gerardo Cunanan's passing away is a great loss. The Davao Medical Center, a government owned and controlled hospital, outperformed the best private hospitals in the Visayas and the Mindanao under the stewardship of Dr. Cunanan.

In an interview with Councilor Samuel Bangoy, who also happened to be a medical consultant of DMC, he said the Davao Medical Center is what it is today primarily due to the vision of Dr. Cunanan.

"A lot of developments can be attributed to him," Bangoy said.

The doctor-turned councilor said public healthcare in Southern Mindanao was greatly improved under the leadership of Dr. Cunanan.

Dr. Cunanan succumbed to complications brought about by his diabetes the other day.

His remains now lie at the Wellness Center of the Davao Medical Center.

From a regional hospital in the early 90's, the sole government owned hospital in Davao City was then upgraded into a medical center.

At present, DMC is one of the most competitive hospitals when it comes to medical procedures and services.
