Thursday, November 29, 2007 Cash prizes ready for chess winners
WINNERS of the past two Davao City Councilor Leo Avila chess tournaments can now heave a sigh of relief because their cash prizes are now available at Window 19 of the City Treasurer's Office.
Former Davao Chess Club president Sammy Yu made this information known after a story of a parent complaining about the delayed release of cash prizes came out.
Yu caught the ire of the parents whose kids won in the Oct. 27 and Nov. 3 Avila chess tournaments in Toril but did not receive the guaranteed prizes of P500, P300, and P200 for the top three placers.
Because of this, Neptali C. Batucan Jr. wrote Councilor Avila on Monday, November 26, to inquire about the prizes.
Batucan said Yu conducted two tournaments and even collected a registration fee of P30 in every tournament.
But to their dismay, there were no prizes given after the competitions ended. (MLSA)
