Fun run draws 5,000 runners
By Marianne Saberon-Abalayan

SOME 5,000 participants confirmed this early to join the SOS-NSTP Saya Fun Run which will kick off Saturday at the Victoria Plaza car park.

SOS Children's Village spokesperson Noel Tanucan, who guested at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn Thursday, said they still expect more walk-in participants.

"The turnout of participants is also expected to increase by Saturday," Tanucan said.

He said the fun run, which is organized for the cause of 185 children at the SOS Village in Bajada, is a tie-up with the Davao Colleges and Schools Association (DACS).

"DACS is helping us with this event. The National Service Training Program (NSTP) students of DACS member schools are joining the fun run as part of their social responsibility program," Tanucan said.

He cited Holy Cross of Davao College, University of the Immaculate Conception, Philippine Women's College, Brokenshire College, Philippine College of Technology, DMMA College of Southern Philippines and Davao Medical School Foundation are among the early registrants.
Tanucan added that University of Mindanao is also sending delegates to the activity while San Pedro College has yet to submit their entries.

"The Task Force Davao, Civic Relations 11 of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Camp Panacan will also participate," he said.

Tanucan said that from 181 kids on their care, four more kids were added to the number.

"There will be no prizes in the event since this is a fund-raising project to support the 185 kids of SOS Children's Village. The registration fees collected in the fun run will help send the kids to school and provide their basic needs," he said.
