Friday, November 30, 2007 Ibuyan lauds TV network for its boxing program
DAVAO CITY Councilor Edgar "Kapitan" Ramos Ibuyan lauded ABS-CBN Regional Network Group's reality boxing show, IDOL, for promoting the sport and helping in the discovery of future champions like the icon Manny Pacquaio.
Ruben Dongzal, Ibuyan's spokesperson, said the city councilor from Bangkerohan is not directly involved in professional boxing since he is into amateur boxing being the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABPA) Davao City chapter president.
Dongzal represented Ibuyan during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum Thursday at the Tower Inn.
He quoted Ibuyan as saying in the dialect that ABS-CBN's program is a very good initiative.
"More and more future boxing champions from the countryside will be produced through this program. I'm happy that ABS-CBN made this initiative. I salute ABS CBN," Dongzal quoted Ibuyan as saying in one radio interview.
Ibuyan continues to support training of amateur boxers. He recently sent a delegation to the recently-concluded National Open Boxing Championships in Cagayan de Oro City and brought home few gold medals for the city. (MLSA)
