Finals of peace singout, songwriting tilt tonight

THE final round of Global Cooling: the 1st Mothers for Peace Singout and Songwriting Competition will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Taboan, Matina Town Square, Matina, Davao City.

The evening presentation will feature the songs of the 10 finalists in the songwriting competition, which is being held as part of the Mindanao Week of Peace (MWOP), according to Irene R. Santiago, an organizer.

At stake in the tilt is the grand prize of P75,000 for best song. Second prize winner will receive P50,000, while the third prize winner will receive P25,000.

Santiago said the winner of the Best Interpretation award will receive P10,000.

Most Popular Song award, to be voted by the viewing public on the day of the Final Round of the competition, will receive a certificate and gift.

The top 10 entries will each receive P5,000 consolation prize, and will be featured in a music album CD of the same title that will be released in January 2008.

The top 10 entries are:

1. Ang Buhay by Angel Josol (Davao City)
2. Celebrate, Gratify, Spread the Peace by Gauss Obenza (Davao City)
3. Dahon, Puno, Ugat, Lupa by Maan Chua and Gauss Obenza (Davao City)
4. I am You are We are by Boots Dumlao (Davao City)
5. Inang Kapayapaan by Maree Contai (Davao City)
6. Wish Ko Lang Naman by Lynne Prieto-Bustamante (Island Garden City of Samal)
7. Magakos Kang Muli by Nice Montante (Butuan City)
8. Supermama by Sheena Onlos (Tagum City)
9. Time To Be Free by Sheila Labos (Davao City)
10. Katumanan by Maia Tampoy (Davao City)

The event is a project of the Mindanao Commission on Women (MCW) and is supported by German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

It will be an exciting night filled with music, joy, and camaraderie as we celebrate the culmination of the Mindanao Week of Peace, Santiago said.
