Wednesday, December 05, 2007 Cockroach found in canned black beans
TWO women filed a complaint before the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) office after they discovered a cockroach inside a can of black beans Sunday.
The two women identified as Joy and Lani (complete name withheld) are transient residents of GSIS Matina, Davao City. They went to the BFAD office last Monday.
Joy said the incident happened around 11 p.m. of December 2.
"Every weekend man gyud mi nagaluto kauban akong friend diri sa apartment, nag-adobo mi. Si Lani ang nag-open sa can sa black beans then na-notice niya nga naay nagsinaw, lawas man diay sa ipis mao tong gihuwad namo sa bowl tapos nakita na pud namo ang tiil sa ipis (Together with my friend here in our apartment, we cook every weekend. We cooked adobo. Lani opened the can of black beans then notice something unusual inside the can and later found out it was a cockroach)," Joy said.
She said they bought the black beans from a store near their apartment.
"Wala man mi makuha sa pag-file og complaint, nagsayang lang mi'g oras. Pero concern lang kami sa mga pareho naming consumers (We did not get anything in filing the complaint, we just wasted time. But we are concern to other consumers," Joy said.
BFAD meantime assured they would act on the complaint.
"If there are administrative lapses during the manufacturing, the company will be sanctioned by our office," said lawyer Joy Bernales-Largo of BFAD. (RMH with RCO)
