Friday, December 07, 2007 Deportation proceedings vs Korean start: Piñol By Carlo P. Mallo
THE Bureau of Immigration's central office in Manila has started deportation hearing on the case filed against Korean national involved in an altercation with North Cotabato Vice-Governor Emmanuel Piñol in a golf course in Davao City last month.
In an interview with Piñol Thursday, he said that Korean national, Young Yun Youn, was summoned to Manila to answer the charges hurled against him.
"He does not deserve to stay in my country," Piñol said. The vice governor reiterated his sentiment that the offense made by the Korean national was not an offense against him as a person but was an offense against the Filipino nation.
"It is high time that Filipinos stand up," Piñol added.
The deportation case stemmed from an altercation between the vice governor and the Korean national in one of the city's golf courses. Youn allegedly displayed arrogant behavior while playing golf.
Youn was also reported to have tried to hit the vice governor with a golf club, which caused the vice governor to hit back on the Korean.
Piñol added that he does not know how long the deportation proceedings would be, but expressed confidence that the Korean national would be deported back to South Korea in no time.
"If the Bureau of Immigration is there to protect the dignity of the Filipino people, then he (Youn) will get deported," Piñol said.
