Saturday, December 08, 2007 Montemayor out of PSC By Charles Raymond A. Maxey
LEON "Binggoy" Montemayor is out as commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) after President Macapagal-Arroyo accepted his resignation last November 29.
The President appointed Eric Lazareto of Bacolod as Montemayor's replacement.
Montemayor, who is from Davao City, was in Thailand as part of the Philippine delegation to the 24th Southeast Asian Games when informed of the development.
He conferred with Dabawenyo PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez and immediately left for Manila to attend to some documents.
Montemayor was reportedly expecting the President to accept his resignation. He then expressed gratitude to Mrs. Arroyo for giving him the opportunity to work at the PSC for five years.
It can be recalled that Montemayor, Ramirez and the two PSC other commissioners, Ambrosio de Luna and Joey Mundo, had tendered their courtesy resignation several months ago.
One of the highlights of Montemayor's term was when he helped revive the BIMP-Eaga Friendship Games, a successful sports project showcasing the skills of athletes from among the four member countries.
