Monday, December 10, 2007 Arroyo names new RDC chief for Davao Region By Joy Romares-Sevilla
PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has appointed a prominent Davao City businessman to head the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Davao Region.
This was announced last week by RDC vice chair and National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) 11 Director Nicasio Angelo Agustin who received the appointment from Malacañang.
The new RDC chair is Vicente Lao, an entrepreneur and currently the chair of the Mindanao Business Council (MinBC).
As chair of the MinBC, Agustin said Lao has been an active partner of the government.
He added that Lao exerted tremendous efforts in strengthening cooperation between the private and public sector institutions, furthering socio-economic development in Mindanao, and advocating for policy reforms for economic growth.
"I am confident that Mr. Lao's chairmanship of RDC 11 will further the strengthen alliance among key socio-economic players from both private and public sectors," he said.
Agustin noted that RDC 11 has been under the leadership of the private sector for the last 20 years, particularly under industrialist Atty. Jesus V. Ayala.
He said that under the private sector-led RDC 11, the Davao Region remained one of the strongest regions in the country in terms of economic and social growth.
"With Mr. Lao, I am positive that the momentum of growth will be sustained for the coming years," Agustin said.
