Woman who fell to her death already identified

THE woman who fell to her death last Thursday inside a shopping mall in Davao City has already been identified by the police.

Police officer Virgilio Arrubio of the Sta. Ana police station said the victim, Nimfa Barba Reyes, 49, was identified by her sister-in-law, with whom she has been staying with for the past four months.

"Katong naghawa siya sa balay sa iyang sister-in-law, nagingon siya na muadto siya ug Sasa, sa iyahang igsuon, pero muhapit siya ug mall (When the victim left her sister-in-law's house that day, she said she will be going to her sibling in Sasa but will be dropping by the mall first)," Arrubio told Sun.Star Davao.

Upon hearing of the incident, the victim's sister-in-law contacted the sister in Sasa and was told that Reyes did not visit her that day.

"Katong na confirm na wala sa Sasa, giadto nila sa hospital kay giingnan pud daw sila sa pag-umangkon sa biktima na lain iyang paminaw, murag iya gyud dawg auntie niya tong nahulog sa mall (When they confirmed that Reyes did not go to Sasa, they went to the hospital where the unidentified woman's body was brought because the victim's niece said she had a bad feeling about the news on the woman's death saying she believes it was her aunt who fell)," Arrubio said.

Reyes fell from the fourth level of the mall to the lower ground floor late afternoon Thursday.

Reyes was from Banay-banay in Davao Oriental. She died from internal hemorrhage.

Police are still trying to find out why she fell. Some eyewitnesses said a man was calling the woman from a lower level of the mall. Another story is that a man tried to distract her while someone else was believed to have been trying to steal her bag.

The police reported that the belongings of Reyes have not been recovered, apparently stolen by someone amid the hysteria that followed her fall. (CPM/RMH)
