NPA behind continuous evacuation in Surigao: military
By Carlo P. Mallo

THE New People's Army (NPA) is behind the continuous evacuation of residents in Lianga, Surigao del Sur, the military claims.

By urging residents to pack up and flee their homes, government will be pressured to stop its military offensives against the rebels in Lianga.

Major Medel Aguilar, chief of the 5th Civil Relations Group, said the military crackdown started last November.

"The operation was conducted due to the presence of the rebels in the area," Aguilar said in an interview Monday.

It appears that the rebels are now feeling the heat of the offensive and the only way out is to put a stop to it. This can be achieved by focusing on the massive evacuation going on.
