THE Social Management System (SMS), a project recently initiated by the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) with a German Institution called InWEnt, has already set basic standards on seven areas to promote and increase SMS awareness among Philippine-owned enterprises.
Lawyer Domingo Duerme, DCCCII president, said the project, which focuses on caring for the employees to become productive, sets basic standards on child labor, forced labor, health and safety, working hours, the right to collective bargaining agreement, compensation, and management system.
"As one of the core activities of the project, DCCCII has conducted the first Davao Region Business CEO Forum on Social Accountability last November 16, 2007," Duerme said.
Duerme said the CEO forum on Social Management System was dubbed as: "SMS: Key To Increased Productivity and Global Competitiveness."
"The forum provided the enterprises in Davao Region with opportunity to enhance their capabilities and consequently increase their productivity and global competitiveness," Duerme said.
He added that the project will run for 16 months where InWEnt and DCCCII will jointly implement the promotion of the program, provide training, and dialogue activities in some parts of Mindanao. (JGRS)
