The victims Lilian Basot, 73; Margie Basot, 35; Farelle Jane Basot 16; Pamela Ann Basot 8; cousins Judith Mama, 46; and Francis Aparice, 18, were all residents of Barangay San Antonio, Cateel.

They were first rushed to the Cateel District Hospital where they spent the New Year. They were later rushed to the Davao Medical Center on Thursday when their conditions did not improve.

Lerma de Guzman, a relative of the victims, said they were having a grand time on New Year's Eve and were partaking of their feast consisting of spaghetti and macaroni, among others, when the six suddenly complained of stomach pain and nausea.

"Problema pa gyud og sakyanan didto kay sige'g ulan-ulan, nagpakyaw na lang mi'g van padung diri (We had difficulty looking for vehicle because of the bad weather. We just rented a van)," de Guzman told SuperBalita at the hospital Thursday morning.

Of the six victims, de Guzman said, eight-year-old Pamela Ann is said to be in the worst condition.

De Guzman admitted that the ingredients for the macaroni and spaghetti, which the victims bought at a local store, were already expired.

De Guzman said they will ask the police to investigate the incident once the victims have fully recovered. (With RCO)
