Garcia: Lose those extra pounds after the holidays
By Imee Garcia

IT'S the start of a new year. Ahhh, finally, no more expenses. Anxiously awaiting our credit card bills! (by the way, make sure your credit card is valid until December 2008. Remove those expired ones from your wallet. Get a renewal card if you haven't done so). On your checkbooks, make sure you write 2008 on the date box, and not 2007.

After the holidays, I hope you are still healthy. No high cholesterol due to the lechon. No high blood pressure due to the massive expenses. I suggest you have your blood tested. And, I bet we all gained a few pounds, so, it's time to take out those golf clubs once again. Start sweating at the golf course. We need to get back into shape in time for--Valentine's Day.

Post your comments here on the Makati siege

Before I forget, I would like to make a slight correction in my article last week. I mentioned that there are no more flights from Korea to Davao. What I meant to say, was that there are no more chartered flights filled with golfers from Korea to Davao. Instead, many of those Korean tour operators offering golf packages are focusing on bringing their clients to Cebu and other Philippine destinations.

Why did they leave? Were they scared of me? I only wanted to be friends, I wasn't seeking marriage. Hehehe. I think the reason why they left is because they found out how good we, Davaoeno golfers, are when it comes to haggling about the betting odds in golf. Maybe our local boys end up winning a lot of money from them. Or, maybe they smoke too much. (umm...ahem...smile!) Stop smoking! It's bad for you. Smoking kills! Let's keep our city smoke-free!
I have nothing much to report this week. If you want to know if there are tournaments for January and February, well, there are a few lined up. One big event is the annual PAL Interclub. The venue is in Bacolod this year. If you're interested in joining, better call your golf club and inquire who the team captain is and make arrangements.

On the lighter side of golf, here's something I want to share with you.
Top 10 Things That Sound Dirty In Golf But Aren't

1. Nuts....my shaft is bent.
2. After 18 holes I can barely walk
3. You really whacked the hell out of that sucker.
4. Look at the size of his putter.
5. Mind if I join your threesome?
6. Stand with your back turned and drop it.
7. Keep your head down and spread your legs a little more
8. My hands are so sweaty I can't get a good grip
9. Nice stroke, but your follow through has a lot to be desired.
10. Hold up.....I need to wash my balls first.
