There are 11 new products accepted, one product brand developed, four new markets developed, six market linkages established, and eight new exporters developed in the province during the year.

Among the major activities on trade promotions and development include the product development, the product building, and the market promotion.

Under the product development, two product development clinics were coordinated by the DTI for three SMEs with 17 designs introduced.

As to the product building, the "Byaneng" brand for the banana chips was developed for Tagum City Women's Council through the initiative of the local government of Tagum.

The brand, DTI said, was formally introduced last 2007 during the launching of banana chips as nutrition food for local students in the elementary and secondary schools in the same city.

DTI added that for the market promotion activity, 11 trade fairs were also participated by a total of 74 local SMEs. Their participation has resulted to sales amounting to P1.8 million.

Davao del Norte was also identified as the 5th top grosser in term of sales in the National Trade Fair (NTF) 2007. (JGRS)
