Al Khobar member arrested in hospital

KIDAPAWAN CITY -- Joint police and military operatives in Central Mindanao arrested on Thursday a suspected bomber and extortionist said to be a member of the Al Khobar group.

Tony Nur was arrested while being treated in a hospital at barangay Poblacion in Buluan, Maguindanao, after he figured in a road accident on January 1.

Elements of the police from Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat and Buluan in Maguindanao, as well as members of the Military Intelligence Group, reportedly took part in the operation.

Nur was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Rogelio Naresma of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 23. As specified in case number 271-2007, he is facing charges of murder.

Superintendent Joel Limson, head of the Tacurong City police, said the Al Khobar group is behind the series of bombings and extortion activities not only in Southwestern Mindanao, but also in other parts of the country.

Nur was reportedly involved in the October 10, 2006 bombing in Makilala, North Cotabato wherein 10 peopled died and 40 others were wounded.

He, too, was supposedly among the suspects that bombed Kidapawan on July and October 2007.

Nur was turned over to the Kidapawan police for further investigation. It was not revealed what Nur was being treated for.
