PRICES of flour in Davao City have increased by about six to seven percent, the regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Southern Mindanao reported Monday.
In a phone interview, Paciente E. Cubillas Jr., senior trade and industry development specialist of the Consumer Welfare and Trade Regulation Division (CWTRD) of the DTI-Southern Mindanao, said that based on their monitoring of prices of prime commodities, several flour brands increased its prices as of last month.
"We have still no monitoring report for this month. The six to seven percent increase in flour prices was monitored in December as compared to previous month's prices," Cubillas told Sun.Star Davao.
Cubillas identified a few flour brands sold in Davao City which have increased its prices, namely General, Canadian, and Imperial brands.
Cubillas said not only prices of flour, but also prices of milk have increased.
He said that in a monitoring also conducted in December, milk prices increased by three to seven percent as compared to previous month's prices.
"Prices of flour and milk have been increasing. Milk prices increased primarily because of weather changes, kahit na sa Australia and USA which are identified as our main sources of milk, tumaas din ang presyo," Cubillas said.
"These countries experienced a drop in production due to the long hot season," he added.
Cubillas said there is no indication whether the prices of flour or milk will either increase or decrease in the coming months.
"There is no indication, and it is very hard to tell if the prices of flour and milk will continuously increase or decrease because we may be giving out information na hindi solid," Cubillas said. (JGRS)
