Friday, January 11, 2008 Lintuan slay is work related: probers By Carlo P. Mallo
THE Police Regional Office (PRO)-Southern Mindanao said motive for the killing of broadcaster Fernando "Batman" Lintuan appeared to be "work-related."
"We have eliminated at least 30 percent of the motives that we have initially looked into," Chief Superintendent Andres Caro II, police regional director, told Sun.Star Davao Thursday.
Reports showed that the investigation of the Lintuan murder case is already focused on a "work-related" motive. The police have earlier dismissed the angle of a possible personal grudge.
Caro, however, did not elaborate saying they do not want to put the witnesses on a risky situation.
For now, the police are simultaneously looking into all the possible motives, Caro revealed.
Part of the focus is listening to the tapes of Lintuan's programs. "We are transcribing the portions which our investigators deem to have a direct effect on the case," Caro added.
Caro said even Philippine National Police chief Avelino Razon Jr., wants the speedy resolution of the high-profile case. Additional forces from the police national headquarters were deployed to Davao City to help in the probe. "More than anyone else, it is the PNP which wants this case resolved," Caro said.
Lintuan was murdered in broad daylight as his car was coming out of an alley, about a hundred meters away from their radio station, along R. Castillo Street the day before Christmas. A gunman lodged two bullets into the head of Lintuan killing him instantly. (CPM)
