The victims were identified as Leo Escalera, 49, and his son Daryl Jules, 20, both residents of Anthony Village in Lanang, Davao City. One Gevaert Remonde, 33, of Flores Village in Bangkal was also identified as a victim.

Information gathered from the Talomo police revealed that the accident happened around 7 p.m. near Sped School in Bangkal.

Figured in the accident include a Honda XR-200R motorcycle with plate numbers IW-1644, registered under Anflocor and driven by Leo Escalera with his son Daryl at the passenger seat. The vehicle that hit them was an Isuzu type jeepney plying the Toril route with plate numbers LWS 248 and driven by Lyndon Lim, 29, of Manggahan, Toril.

Another vehicle got entangled in the accident, a Mitsubishi jeepney plying the Mintal route and driven by Bernalito Lampias, of Mintal.

Remonde who was crossing the pedestrian lane, was hit by the vehicle driven by Lim.

Witnesses said the vehicle driven by Lim was traveling behind the jeepney driven by Lampias.

Lampias hit the brakes to allow Remonde to cross the pedestrian lane.

However, the vehicle driven by Lim overtook Lampias and did not notice that he crossed the other lane and hit into the motorcycle driven by Escalera.

Remonde, who was in the middle of the road, was caught in the middle of the collision between the vehicles of Lim and Lampias.

The younger Escalera, despite the helmet he was wearing, and Remonde died on the spot.

Leo was brought to the Davao Medical Foundation Hospital but latest information revealed that he already died due to his grave condition.

Lim voluntarily surrendered before the police. In an interview, he said he was not driving at high speed and it was the motorcycle that hit him.

However, several eyewitnesses revealed that Lim was driving at high speed and was unable to prevent the accident.

The bodies of the victims were brought to the Toril Funeral Homes, while Lim is set to face charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and damage to property. (JAR)
