Saturday, January 12, 2008 High hopes for Davao table tennis squads
DAVAO City's secondary boys and girls table tennis teams have very good chances in winning the gold medals in the coming 2008 Davao Regional Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet set at the Mati Sports Complex in Davao Oriental.
Former Metro Davao Table Tennis Association (Medatta) President Friendee Nuñez said the secondary boys and girls teams have 90 percent chance to win the championships while the elementary boys and girls have a 50-50 chance to pull off victories.
Nuñez told Sun.Star Davao Friday that they are focusing on the training preparations of the elementary players.
"Our elementary players still need more training being new in competitive sports," he said.
Nuñez is the coach the elementary girls team that will parade the services of Juvinel Gumahin, Jelmar Soriano, Issa Lee Darlo and Angelie Penecios.
The boys' team is composed of Cloyd Jay Villamor, Francis Francisco, Celvin Paslangan and Godfrey Rex Cuizon.
In the secondary division, Davao City is rooting on Lyndel Sellado, Mary Grace Luna, Loren Erika Mendiola and Jeziel Pepino in the girls' event.
Palarong Pambansa medalist Zoren Patrick Mendiola leads the cast of the boys' team that is also bannered by brothers Gil and Gene Ablanque and Ryan Datuin. (MLSA )
