Sunday, January 13, 2008 Mahipus to focus on dev't projects
DAVAO City Councilor Diosdado Angelo Mahipus wishes to focus on development projects for the first half of the year 2008.
Mahipus said he will be proposing two ordinances -- one for the establishment of a greenbelt or park in each barangay and the other is for the creation of sports Olympics for the youth of Davao.
Also among his priorities is the establishment of a coastal road for District 2 where most of the docking areas in the city are situated. These include the Sasa Wharf and the docking places of private companies along the stretch of Sasa to Bunawan.
The establishment of an Agro-Industrial Export Processing Zone in District 2 is also being eyed by the councilor as the district's upland barangays are home to banana and other monocrop plantations.
Recognizing the area's economic potential, Mandug was earlier declared as a Special Economic Zone by the 14th Council.
"We'll establish the processing zone somewhere in the upper Bunawan area where agri products and materials are available for manufacturing," Mahipus said.
Setting-up a Windmill Energy Plant in Paquibato to supply alternative energy for the area is also one of the councilor's intended projects.
Paquibato is one of the farthest political districts in District 2 and is among those that have limited if no access to electricity. (GLP)
