Smart, Sony Ericsson partner for 24K
By Nelson C. Bagaforo

TO START the year right, the country's leading wireless services provider, Smart Communications, Inc., and cellphone maker Sony Ericsson introduced two new high-end handsets to the local market with a one-of-a-kind bash, treating Smart Gold subscribers in Davao City to a night of free food and drinks, plus fabulous prizes.

Dubbed as the "24K Party", it took place on January 8 at the city's coziest place, the Pops Resto Bar attended by top executives of Smart Communications, Inc. and Sony Ericsson.

The place turned Gold as the themed party suggests with blown-up pictures taken by ace photographer Donald Tapan and his daughter, Apple Tapan-Serrano, using the new Sony Ericsson K850i Cyber-shot phone lined the walls for all partygoers to see.

Also introduced that night was Sony Ericsson's K770i handset. Smart is first to offer the newest, most stylish Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot handsets, only through Smart Gold.

Costumed models gamely posed against a giant photo frame for anyone who wanted to use and experience the amazing ease of taking professional-looking photos using the K850i and K770i.

Crisp, beautiful, and astoundingly clear photos, taken using the Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot handsets, resulted from these impromptu photo shoot sessions.

While strutting the catwalk, the models showed off cutting-edge features and gorgeous looks of the new handsets, to the delight of the crowd who were amused with its looks and features.

The party was, of course, highlighted by the raffling off of free trips abroad and a unit of Sony Ericsson K850i handset.

That night, three lucky Smart Gold subscribers each won an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok, plus pocket money, courtesy of Smart and Sony Ericsson.

Another Smart Gold subscriber Joseph Lim won a brand-new Sony Ericsson K850i from Sony Ericsson account manager for Smart Dino Romano.

The arrival of the Sony Ericsson K850i and K770i signals the new era of the seriously competitive, full-featured mobile handset which also happens to take great pictures -- great enough to look like they had been taken with a higher-end digital camera.

Sony Ericsson K850i and K770i will be available to all Smart Gold subscribers who are up for retention, as well as to those who will apply for a Smart Gold postpaid line.

As a special treat, until February 15, all who will avail of either the K850i through Smart Gold Plan 3,500, or the K770i through Smart Gold Plan 1,800, will have a chance to win one of five all-expenses-paid trip for two to Boracay, plus pocket money.

Smart Gold's partnership with Sony Ericsson marks another consumer-oriented innovation from the cellular leader. It has partnered with industry leaders such as Airborne Access, Fuji Xerox Philippines, Mabuhay Miles, among others, to power exclusive perks that provide connectivity, mobility, and access to the most innovative technologies.

"We understand the rapidly evolving needs of today's mobile phone owners, when sophisticated, all-in-one devices need to be powered by innovative operator technologies.

Smart Gold provides not only cutting-edge connectivity to the biggest network in the country; it also provides access to a wide range of value added services. This solidifies our leadership position as we offer the best value for money in a market seeking for great service at good prices," says Danilo J. Mojica, head of Smart's Wireless Consumer Division.
