Business registration with Nerbac up in '07
By Joy Romares-Sevilla

THE National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (Nerbac) of the regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) posted a total of 6,442 business registrations in Davao City in 2007 compared to the 6,348 recorded in 2006.

In an interview Tuesday, Edwin Banquerigo, deputy chief of the Nerbac, told Sun.Star Davao that the center will continue to strengthen its networking with partner agencies to fast track the processing of business registration of businesses in Davao City.

"We will intensify our cooperation with our partners particularly those who are involved with the business licensing and registration. We target to cut the licensing time and to fast track the process of getting business licenses," Banquerigo said.

Banquerigo said Nerbac has representatives from the Social Security System (SSS), Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), and PhilHealth.

"We just coordinate with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the local government unit (LGU). We don't have representatives from these two agencies. If we can have representatives from each agency, mas maganda," Banquerigo said.

"Business licensing will be completed in one to two weeks. This span of time will assure business owners that everything is complete," he said.

He explained that without Nerbac, the time spent for processing business licensing will take much longer.

"What really takes it long are the requirements needed. With Nerbac, business owners are already briefed. From the start, they are already informed of the requirements, they are told where to go and who are the persons they needed to talk to," Banquerigo said.

Banquerigo, on the other hand, claimed that the good networking and coordination with the partner agencies is one of the identified accomplishments of the Nerbac last year.

"We also identify the success of the Mindanao Trade and Investment Mission to Saudi Arabia and the Bimp-Eaga Investment Conference as among of the accomplishments of the Nerbac," he said.

He added that Nerbac initiated these two big projects last year.
