Gorres to hold public sparring session

FIGHT fans will have a glimpse of what Z "The Dream" Gorres brings to the table when the Filipino boxer holds a public sparring session tomorrow, January 17, at the ALA Boxing Gym in Banilad Town Center, Cebu City.

Gorres, the reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) intercontinental super flyweight champion, is slated to face hard punching and newly crowned IBO super fly king Vic Darchinyan on February 2 at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Lahug, Cebu City.

Philboxing.com reported that Gorres would have his sparring session beginning at 5:30 p.m.

"I owe it to Cebuano boxing fans to show them that I am preparing hard for this event," Gorres was quoted by Philboxing.com as saying.

The Gorres-Darchinyan fight is an eliminator for the IBF super flyweight and whoever wins this one will have a shot at the world crown.

Darchinyan is the same fighter whon Fil-Am Nonito Donaire Jr. crushed via a fifth round knockout when the cocky Armenian-turned-Australian was making defense of his world crown last year.

The stunning win made Donaire the new world king and new toast of the boxing world in the lower weight class.

Darchinyan, called "The Raging Bull," has since recovered from that loss, scoring a KO win in his last fight.

Against Gorres, Darchinyan will have his hands full, though. (CRAM)
