Ateneo bags 15 gold medals

THE Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) bagged a total of 15 gold medals, 20 silvers and 15 bronzes to lead the medal tally of the Ceelin Inter-School Swimming Competition at the Ladislawa Country Clubhouse in Buhanging as of Saturday press time.

Korinn Trinidad opened Ateneo's campaign by clocking a total of one minute and 54.37 seconds to win the gold in girls' six-under 100-meter freestyle.

She bested teammates Tyra Kyla Ebon and Zoe Hilario who settled for silver and bronze, respectively.

Trinidad followed it up with another golden performance in 50m freestyle where she registered 1:04.63 in the swimfest organized Evangelist East Aquatics Swim Team of Darren Evangelista.

Ateneo bet Franco del Rio topped the boys 7 100m freestyle with a time of 1:48.79 while Danica Trinidad ruled the girls 7 100m freestyle after clocking 1:42.25 and the 50m freestyle with 57.63 record.

Del Rio also clinched the gold in 50m freestyle with a time of 1:04.44.

The other Ateneo gold medalists were Paula Dizon (girls 8 100m and 50m freestyle), Sam Trinidad (boys 12 100m and 50m freestyle), Brian Panganiban (boys 13 100m and 50m freestyle), Salvador Angala (boys 15 100m and 50m freestyle), Mae Dagdag (girls 11 50m freestyle) and A. Benignos (girls 13 50m freestyle).

General Santos City-H tanker Justice Wee timed 2:05.68 to pocket the boys six-under 100m freestyle gold. He defeated Atenean Jose Banes and New-E's Jurge Mendiola.

Shalo's Tim Adona took the boys 8 100m freestyle gold over Ateneo's Julian Mejos while Precious International School of Davao Academy bet Jan Wilfred Uy lorded it over his rivals in boys 9 100m freestyle.

Stella Maris Academy of Davao's Katrina Aguela salvaged the gold in girls 9 100m freestyle while Assumption College of Davao's John Zuniga emerged champion in boys 10 100m freestyle.

Pia Cardinal of United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) pulled off the win over Ateneo's Adrienne de Luna and Davao Wisdom Academy's Dara Evangelista in girls 10 100m freestyle event.

But Evangelista came back strong to secure the gold in 50m freestyle.

Notre Dame of Dadiangas' Omar Dacera grabbed the boys 11 100m freestyle gold while his brother Lawin took the gold in boys 14. Their teammate Gabriel Arizala finished first in girls 13 100m freestyle.

Shalo's Coralyn Lim won the girls event. Lim's teammate M. Mercado shared the limelight by topping the girls 12 100m freestyle.

The swimfest is sponsored by Ceelin Ascorbic Acid, Growee, Speedo, McDonald's, Vice-Mayor Inday Sara Duterte and SK Davao president Halila Sugagar. MLSA
