Tuesday, January 22, 2008 Davao should support world ocean gab: dad By Joy Romares-Sevilla
DAVAO City should not miss the opportunity to play supporting role to Indonesia, which will host one of the world's biggest environmental conference in May next year, dubbed as the World Ocean Conference slated in Manado, North Sulawesi.
City Councilor Peter Laviña said this in Monday's edition of the Kapehan sa Dabaw at the SM Entertainment Plaza.
Laviña shared some reasons why Davao City should take advantage of the big event.
"Manado is a sister-city of Davao and we should extend our assistance to it in hosting this conference," Laviña said.
He added that Davao has been considered as the "northern gateway" to Manado. The Sam Ratulangi Airport can be reached through Jakarta and Bali to its south, via Singapore to its west and Davao to the north.
"Also, there would be plenty of opportunities for pre and post conference in the month of May. Davao can host a number of these to take advantage of the presence of eminent personalities," he said.
Lavia further said that Davao could also offer special tours and exposure trips to participants to showcase that city's best practices in marine conservation like the turtle sanctuary, mangrove forest, and the Davao Gulf Development initiative.
