Wednesday, January 23, 2008 Goodyear finalist in CSR awards
LEADING tire manufacturer Goodyear Philippines, Inc. was recently named finalist in the first CSR Excellence Awards by the American Chamber Foundation Philippines, Inc.
Its core program, the "Safety Triangle," was included in the award's environment category, with four other reputed companies in the country.
The AmCham CSR Excellence Awards aims to recognize and honor the corporations that have implemented outstanding and innovative projects or programs. The awards ceremony was held recently during the AmCham Foundation's 20th Thanksgiving Ball.
After an in-depth evaluation by the organization's selection committee, Goodyear was chosen for the category "Ensuring a safe and clean environment" for its "Safety Triangle."
Goodyear aggressively promotes safety through CSR projects across three areas--Road & Driver Safety, Environmental Safety, and Workplace Safety.
"We at Goodyear consider it a great honor to be selected as a finalist among an impressive roster of world-class companies. Our congratulations to all participants for embracing the notion of good corporate citizenship, and a special note of thanks to our associates and business partners, who through their individual and combined efforts, contributed to the improvement of road and driver safety in the Philippines," Goodyear Philippines president Dave Morin said.
According to Rosario Ventura, AmCham Foundation Philippines, Inc. trustee, Goodyear was selected because "it regards safety as a core value, which it seeks to instill not only within the company but outside through various programs."
Forming part of Goodyear Philippines' CSR campaign is the Bayani Ng Kalsada (local Highway Heroes). The annual program recognizes local road heroes who have done extraordinarily good deeds to their fellow countrymen.
Goodyear Philippines is also an active proponent in educating motorists on tire safety and maintenance. At the onset of peak travel seasons, Goodyear conducts tire audits in strategic locations like petrol stations to assess the health of each tire and provide helpful tire tips to motorists.
Through its branded retail network, Goodyear runs a car care program for women drivers, called Women with Drive, to empower them with basic auto maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
