Sunday, January 27, 2008 Nograles to pour P40M for flood control
REPRESENTATIVE Prospero Nograles (1st district, Davao City) is allotting P40 million for the flood control and road concreting project in Talomo and Ma-a this city. Nograles sourced the budget outside his regular development fund allotment.
In a statement, lawyer Karlo Nograles, chief of staff of Nograles, said such is the advantage of being a respected senior member of the Congress.
"If you are a hardworking congressman, you can find ways and means to let departments of government take notice of the projects badly needed by your constituents," the young Nograles said.
Twenty million has been allocated for the rehabilitation and improvement of Talomo River Control at NHA Village, Bangkal, Barangay Talomo.
It was learned that residents of NHA Bangkal have long been complaining about the perennial floods in their area. Apart from the river overflowing to their homes, soil erosion has become a cause for concern as the river is already eating into the NHA property.
"There's a chapel and a covered court by the riverside that's already in danger of being washed away by the Talomo river," Nograles said.
He said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) already promised that with these funds, a concrete revetment and if possible a revetment on piles will be constructed to provide a permanent solution to the problem.
The other P20 million meantime will be used for the concreting of additional two lanes along Ma-a road.
"This is in continuation of our four-lane highway plan for Ma-a road that has become a major road artery with the development of subdivisions and different business establishments in Ma-a," Nograles said. (Press release)
