Bridge barge stuck in Cotabato waters
By Ben O. Tesiorna

AT FIRST, the bridge reconstruction project in Bankerohan seemed to be stuck in some office in Manila. Now, it is literally stuck off the waters of Cotabato, as yet the Generoso Bridge I project seems off to another delay.

The barge that is carrying materials for the construction of the bridge reportedly got stuck while on its way to Davao City from Metro Manila.

Reports reaching Sun.Star Davao showed that the barge of the Ciriaco Corp., contractor of the bridge project, was scheduled to dock at a private wharf at Kilometer 11 in Sasa, Davao City, last Sunday.

When officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) noticed that no such barge has arrived, they were informed by Ciriaco Corp. about the incident.

DPWH officials earlier said that the on-site construction would start late this month or early February upon the arrival of the pre-fabricated materials coming from Metro Manila.

With this latest development, it was not clear when the barge will finally reach Davao.

Officials estimate that it will just take one day for the barge to travel from Cotabato to Davao. No one is saying, however, how long it will take to get the barge going.

It was not clear what caused the barge to get stuck in Cotabato waters. Officials here are mum about the incident.
