Gov't execs undergoing lifestyle check: Ombuds
By Carlo P. Mallo

THE Office of the Ombudsman in Mindanao has started to conduct lifestyle check on all government officials, especially on elective officials who have been tipped-off to have illegally amassed wealth.

In an interview Monday, Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao Humphrey Monteroso said the lifestyle check on government officials is continuous all year-round.

"But there are a few whom we are focused on," Monteroso said.

The deputy ombudsman, however, refused to elaborate on the investigation that they are conducting. "We do not want to pre-empt anything," Monteroso said.

"There are some officials who have amassed real estate properties here in Davao City, while others have numerous high-end vehicles," he added.

Reports gathered by Sun.Star Davao showed that some of the properties allegedly owned by government officials who have been subjected to investigation are real estate properties in high-end villages and luxury cars.

When prodded as to how many of the government officials here in Davao City are involved, Monteroso had this to say: "Hindi naman gaanong marami."

"But they will be given their day to defend themselves," Monteroso said, on those who will be proven to have amassed wealth beyond what their salaries allow as government officials.
