Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Sarabia: 'Ours is a very young team'
REIGNING men's volleyball champion University of Mindanao (UM) is still at a loss after the beating it suffered at the hands of the University of the Immaculate Conception (UIC) in the opener of the Davao City Prisaa Meet over the weekend.
UM sports Director Joaquin "Boy" Sarabia, said: "Ours is a very young team. We only have eight players including five who are all first-timers. We lost four of our players."
He said they also lost to UIC in one of the games last year.
"There's no excuse. We lost to a better team. Congratulations to UIC! We will still keep on trying to win games. Our preparations, by the way, is for next year when these young players get more experience," he added.
UM men's volleyball coach Daks Yambao, who is also regional director of Philippine Volleyball Federation, quit from his post October last year.
Sarabia said the women's team coach was the one who mentored the UM men's team that lost to UIC.
"We're open to hire new coach for the team," he added. (MLSA)
