Velasco: Feedback
By Diana B. Velasco

FOLLOWING are reactions to my recent column article on global warming and climate change.

Sun.Star Network Online's coverage of the Sinulog 2008 Festival

Keith Dawes of Australia (kopal@primus.com.au):

I particularly enjoyed the concluding paragraph, 'Our love for the environment should be anchored on understanding that to love the planet means to love the place we live in and, consequently, increasing the quality of the life that we live on our short stay on earth. But to scare ourselves with doomsday scenarios is not only inconvenient but also very unnecessary.'

I agree that these people pushing global warming or climate change are guilty of vanity to consider that he holds more power over the earth than all the forces of the cosmos combined. How arrogant.

Personally I believe Gore and his cronies are purely in the scam for greed. If he were serious he would pledge to use less energy, live a life style in keeping with an environmentalist and stop polluting from his zinc mine. Instead he has his own carbon trading company set to make billions of dollars from the swindle.
Again thank you for the article. Kind regards.

Luis Martinez of Beijing, China (thulxzen@yahoo.com):

I was really impressed with your column today in Sun.Star Daily - Davao. At least some people out there are still skeptic with what Al Gore said and shown to the world. I wasn't convinced, neither. One movie you must see is called, "The Global Warming Hoax". (I can burn it to a CD and send it to you, if you'd like).

It's a documentary about the climate change, narrated and proved by famous climatologists, scientists, university professors and geologists. The bottom-line is....there's no such thing as global warming. Your point is very correct about the cyclical spikes and lags of earth temperature. The earth cools down and warms itself up in a certain number of years.

The advantage of this propaganda of Al Gore was that - UN responded; many countries responded. They believed because they're using names of famous scientists and climatologists about global warming (yet these famous figures complained that they don't said those words and ask their names to be removed from the list). And then.....budget flows like inevitable lava. It creates job all over the world to create global warning monitoring sites. Money and more money flows. Wow! That's convincing power at work. Corruption? Over-pricing of so-called monitoring device...perhaps!

The disadvantage? Ahh, it kills many industries suspected of contributing to pollution. It scares people to death that it's the end of the world (motago na lang sa langob ang uban) The reality is, the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is very, very minimal (point something...man!!).

I have witnessed furious typhoons in my birthplace in Camotes Island, could it be a sign of global warming? haha far from the real thing! I have witnessed pollution here in China...ahhh it scares people from the West. Itom pa man tingali ang smoke-belching sa mga jeep diha sa Cebu (hehe joke).

Anyway, mao ra to ako ikasulti about sa kainit sa atmosphere ni Al Gore. He's a good speaker...really good. But, you've found the truth!

There's another column from Sun.Star Davao that I like to read - it's called "Regarding Henry" by Henrylito D. Tacio. Keep it up and more power!"
