In a text message, Anton Ferrazzini, the brother of the victim, said his brother died after more than 24 hours of fighting for his life in Davao Doctors Hospital.

"He passed away this morning at 12:30," the text message said. "He died a senseless death."

Vicente was ambushed Saturday morning by motorcycle-riding men along Pichon (Magallanes) Street in the city.

The 44-year-old trader was shot four times.

Investigators are still looking for possible motives behind the murder of Ferrazzini.

They are considering robbery, as the belt bag of the victim is nowhere to be found.

Eyewitness accounts said the gunmen sped off with the belt bag.

It is believed that the belt bag of the suspect contained a large sum of money as the victim came from his fruit stand located in the Bankerohan Public Market.
