Sunday, February 10, 2008 Lozada's talk won't bring culprits to jail By Grace L. Plata
ALTHOUGH some members of the Davao City council agree that National Broadband Network (NBN) deal witness Rodolfo "Jun" Lozada Jr. may probably be telling the truth, they feel Lozada's testimony will go down the drain in terms of bringing those responsible to justice.
Environment committee chair Leonardo Avila III who met Lozada as president of the Philippine Forest Corporation finds him "a good and reasonable guy."
City Councilor Peter Laviña also said Lozada confirms widely known corruption regarding the broadband deal but unfortunately Senate probe would not lead to any big fish going to jail.
"People are fed up with the fighting of the elite. My only lament is how come he only came out now when he was aware of the graft practice in 2006. He was himself part of the scam," Laviña said.
Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz said that though Lozada is credible because he was an actual player, its only effect in the country is loss of faith in the government.
"This can lead to more anarchy, more protests, more coups, more NPAs, more (Senator Antonio) Trillanes IV," Ortiz said.
"Honestly, as far a filing of anti-graft case is concerned, it may no longer be significant since the project did not push through. But it may serve to urge people not to believe in the president anymore," Councilor Diosdado Angelo Mahipus said. (GLP)/b>
