NPA apology over slay not acceptable
By Grace L. Plata

"APOLOGY not accepted," was the statement of Councilor Peter Laviña in a brief talk with the media Tuesday when asked of his reaction to the error admitted by the New People's Army (NPA) in the killing of businessman Vicente Solis Ferrazini.

"They are apologizing to the general public. I am part of the general public and I do not accept their apology. It is not acceptable to me, to the general public not even to the family. You cannot bring back the life of Ferrazini," Laviña said.

Laviña added that there is just no excuse for killing an unarmed civilian even if their war is just as the NPA claims.

"Walang kalaban laban ang civilian against NPA hits squads. Mismatch ba," Laviña said.

With errors like these, Laviña said the NPA have lost the sympathy of the people.

"This is one of the reasons nganong naga-wane ang revolutionary movement because of abuses," he added.

The councilor also hit the NPA for saying they are better than the military for admitting their mistakes.

"They should not compare themselves to the AFP or the police. For one, they are operating outside of our laws. It is like comparing apples and oranges," Laviña said.
