Friday, February 29, 2008 Landowners, developers urged to look into BPO industry
THE president of the Davao City Chmaber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DCCCII) appealed to landowners and property developers Thursday to open their hearts and minds to the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry.
Simeon Marfori II, DCCCII president, in his welcome address in Thursday's BPO Property Forum held at the Davao Convention and Trade Center, said landowners and property developers could have longer streams of income if they just allow themselves to host BPOs.
"Most of us don't know what to do with our land, there is a huge opportunity that is anchored in the BPO industry and what we have to do is to grab it," Marfori said.
He added that BPO is a growing industry in many parts of the world.
"We have competitions from India and other parts of the world, some of them are ahead of us, but because of the high cost of their manpower, they are losing their competitiveness. I would like to say, go to Davao. We have the talents here, our rental rates are lower, our road networks are better, we have the telecom providers, vendors for software, and schools and universities are here already," Marfori said.
"Davao City has big amenities and has better organized business community. The only way is for us to look at our properties and look at them with the eyes of a businessman," Marfori added.
The BPO Property Forum was attended not only by landowners and property developers from Davao, but also from Metro Manila.
It intends to bring together property developers and partner agencies to tackle issues in developing IT parks in Davao City. (JGRS)
