ORGANIZERS on Thursday bared cash prizes at stake in the 2nd Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) Cycling Challenge that hits the road on Sunday in Kaputian Island, Igacos.

Philcycling regional coordinator Salvador Paholio, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao Thursday, said the open elite team champion will bag a cash prize of P5,000 while the runner-up will receive P3,000 and the third placer will settle for P2,000. They will also receive trophies.

"The top three finishers in the open individual event will pocket P2,500, P1,500, and P500 plus medals. The next five finishers will not go home empty-handed with P500 each," he said.

A P1,500 cash prize and a free room accommodation at the world-class Paradise Island Park and Beach Resort awaits the youth 23-under champion. The second and third placers will go home with P1,000 and P500, respectively. The fourth to eighth cyclists will get P200 apiece.

Paholio, also the Samahang Siklista Kooperatiba ng Dabaw (SSikad) chief, added, "IgacoS City Tourism Officer Guillermo Adriatico said riders can avail of free transportation from Babak to Kaputian on Sunday. They need to be at the City Government Wharf between 7 to 8 a.m. to avail of the free ride."

The race, supported by Lipovitan, is organized by Karancho Samal chapter and Philcyling 11 in cooperation with the Davao City Sports Council.

Former Southeast Asian (SEA) Games medallist Dominic Carpio leads the Mindanao Times team while the Great Circle Logistic (GCL) Team will have the services of Kambras Cycling Club members Adrian Duterte, who is team captain, Jojo Dawa, Tata Sapar and Edwin Iyod.
