Friday, February 29, 2008 Garcia: Tiger Woods and Paula Creamer have won again By Imee Garcia
TIGER Woods won in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship last February 24 in Arizona, USA. Stewart Cink was no match for him.
Tiger was simply steaming hot that day making 14 birdies in 29 holes. He has won four consecutive times already on tour. And, just in case you're wondering, overall, he has won 63 times in the PGA tour.
The next PGA tournament is the Honda Classic, which will start on February 28 up to March 2. The purse is $5.5 million.
On the women's side, Paula Creamer won The Fields Open held in Hawaii last weekend. She was down by two going to the final round, and she made a birdie on the 18th hole to seal the victory. Jeong Jang lost to her by one stroke. She still did well, receiving $119,590 as prize money while Paula Creamer received $195,000.
Did you know that Jeong Jang spent some time in Davao City and trained in Apo Golf Club? Yes she did. She, along with other Korean golfers, had come to Davao to train, before heading back to Korea to become golf professionals and then they try their luck to qualify for the LPGA after two years.
By the way, she is only five feet tall. Height is might. We know that. But height isn't everything as proven by this Korean lady. Apo Golf's Chihiro Ikeda is also barely 5 feet tall, and she is such a long hitter as well.
Did you also know that Se Ri Pak also trained in Davao City in the mid 90's? You know, I remember seeing her play in Davao. That's how long I've been playing. How time flies.
I also trained in Apo Golf Club, but sad to say, nothing happened to me.
I'm still here, no chance to win millions in the LPGA. Oh well. But I can retire from golf happy because I've made a hole in one in Apo Golf Club, and,
I've made a double eagle at Lanang Golf Club.
In Palos Verdes, hmmm, nothing great I've done that I can be proud of, except that my name will forever be on the championship board as the club champion (ladies) for two consecutive years. (Ahem, thank you, thank you) Oh, I know what I'm proud of--reaching the green of hole number 9 in two...yes! I've done it a few times and I'm proud of that!
To a few guys, it may be easy, but for the ladies, it is very hard to reach in two! It's such a long and hard hole! It should be a par 5 for the ladies.
By the way, did you play in Palos Verdes recently? If you did, then you probably saw the huge streamer that bears my name. (ang yabang! hehe)
You can't miss it. The streamers congratulating the winners of the Club Championship are located on the short fence going to hole number 10.
If you're coming from the front 9 and going to the back 9, the streamers are what welcome you.
The 61st PAL Interclub Golf tournament Men's Division started last Wednesday, February 27, and ends on March 1. Goodluck to our Davao Teams. I hope they all win!
Golf Joke: A golfer set up his ball on the first tee, took a mighty swing and hit his ball into a clump of trees. He found his ball and saw an opening between two trees he thought he could hit through. He took another mighty swing with his 3-wood and the ball hit a tree, bounced back, hit him on the forehead and killed him. As he approached the gates of Heaven, St. Peter saw him coming and asked, "Are you a good golfer?"
