Solutions to overcome perception issue presented

SOLUTIONS and recommendations to overcome perception issue in terms of investing in Mindanao particularly on the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry were bared during the BPO Property Forum last week.

David Leechiu, of Leechiu and Associates and who presented the "BPO Property Outlook" during the BPO Property Forum held at the Davao Convention and Trade Center on Thursday, said among the solutions and recommendations include the building and promoting of infrastructures so that investors would be enticed to venture into BPO.

"Government incentives are also important and we should also encourage recruitment centers because they are our best sources," Leechiu said.

He added that a certain locality should also trace the labor sector and graduates by gender, age, year graduated, course, employment history, and conducting information.

"The labor pool is here so there is really a need to track graduates and to build more BPO and call center training courses," Leechiu said.

He said Mindanao, especially Davao City, has a lot of advantages.

"There are more negative incidents in Manila that took place than in Mindanao," he said.

However, he claimed that many call centers continue to expand in Metro Manila despite negative incidents.

Earlier, Roberto Teo, chair of the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center (DCIPC), said the negative perception about Mindanao is one of the reasons that hinder Davao City from "soaring high."

"The negative advisories are one of the concerns we should really look into," Teo said, adding that the other reason stopping investors of BPO from coming in is the difficulty in finding sites and locations within which to operate. (JGRS)
