City of lights, city of love
By Jinggoy Salvador

OH la la!

In Paris there is magic. Romance is definitely in the air -- you breath it and if you stay long enough, you just might live in it.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

Thinking of which destination to head to on your next trip? Try this romantic city or fashion capital or city of arts depending on how you look at the place.

If you do, the best time to visit the City of Lights is in the Fall or Spring. The weather is just right, cool and breezy and the copper colors of the foliage of Autumn is intoxicating and the sprouting buds of green in Spring is invigorating.

Summer is great but can get pretty hot which is what we are quite used to.

Your decision as to what time you want to visit the place will dictate what your luggage will contain. Winter will make you tote heavier gears and lesser items (no room for shopped goods! -- unless paying for extra pounds doesn't bother you), Spring and Fall will make you bring a couple of sweaters and Summer is great for linens and cottons meaning: more pieces for a "quick change" ala ramp models.

As what a European pal said, people in the continent don't care what you wear. True, but when you dress right, you can turn heads. Paris is a fashion capital, why not join the crowd?

Visiting and having proof that you indeed have conquered one more site in the world map is a must - a.k.a. touristic photo ops. Tick the sites on your must-see list: Eiffel Tower and Arc d'Triomphe (make sure you get to the top and get a fantatic view and amazing radial city planning of Paris. Don't worry you will not be lonely up there); Smile back at Monalisa at the Musee du Louvre (andmaybe get in the code cracking mood as well).

Word of advice: Make sure you have singled out which artworks you want to see and go directly to it -- your few lifetimes may not be enough to appreciate each piece in that humongous museum!

While you're at the artsy mood see the Musee d'Orsay (more Degas to see), Picasso Museum and the modern art destination, the Pampidou; do a Visita Iglesia from Notre Dame to Sacre Coeur Basilica to Sainte-Chapelle to St. Germaine l'Auxerois; see the sunset by the River Seines; have coffee at a street caf‚ and dine and wine al fresco, it's so Paris and chic; try their fantastic desserts of macaroons and tarts; walk along the fashion avenues, the off-the-beaten-tracks of Lu Marais- Paris' oldest district.

The surprises are endless.

And then you have to head home.

When the trip nearly comes to an end, you will think you have not seen enough. There is something about this city that makes you want to come back again and again. You can't seem to savor enough of the city streets, the sidestreets, the cafes, and quaint shops and yes, art.

There is always something new you discover and rediscover, something new even on the street you have walked through day after day.

Indeed you haven't seen enough -- you need time to explore the city more. That's what makes you want to come back for more.
