By Joy Romares-Sevilla

THE chief of the Business Bureau of the City Government of Davao on Monday reported that a total of P2.6 million was collected as of February this year for occupational permit.

In an interview with Lawyer Jhopee Agustin, chief of the Business Bureau and guest in Monday's edition of the Kapehan sa Dabaw at Pizza Hut at SM Davao, she said there is a significant increase in occupational permit collected during the first two months of this year.

"Ang collection natin for occupational permit last January 2008 is already equivalent to a one year collection natin recorded for the previous years," Agustin said.

She said in 2006, the bureau had only collected a total of P1.8 million for occupational permit. Lat year, the bureau collected a total of P3.9 million.

"The P2.6 million collection was as of February 2008 only, we expect that we can further increase the collection," Agustin said, adding they have intensified collection of occupational permit only this year.

She said the bureau is setting up one-stop-shops in different malls in the city to make it more convenient for those who wanted to get such permit.

"For the last two weeks of March, we will be at the Gaisano Mall of Davao. We were done in SM. In the first two weeks of April, we will be at NCCC Mall, and we will be at Victoria Plaza on the last two weeks of April," she said.

Agustin said occupational permit is a fee imposed to every permanent or temporary employee.

Employees have to pay P100 or P50 for occupational permit depending on work category.
