Wednesday, March 19, 2008 Anti-corruption chief: Gov't serious in its campaign By Carlo P. Mallo
DESPITE incessant accusations of multi-million graft and corruption in the higher echelons of governance, the chief of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission insists the administration of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is serious in putting an end to the culture of corruption in Philippine Society.
"The government has been doing its best to put an end to corruption," PACC chief Constancia de Guzman said in an interview at Marco Polo Hotel on Friday.
"It's not mere lip service, not only propaganda, we have hard data to prove that we are serious in stopping corruption," de Guzman added.
De Guzman said the government has been building airtight cases to ensure that those who go the ways of the corrupt would be severely punished.
"We have had presidential appointees and top-ranking government officials who have been punished," de Guzman said.
The chief of the PAGC also said the subjects of their investigations, some of whom have already been charged, are real persons. "Not mere fictional characters," de Guzman said.
However, de Guzman said she did not have a list of the personalities that were charged and punished for corruption.
