Better to have no agreement, than a bad one: MILF

THE Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) declared it is ready for the possibility of not reaching a peace agreement with the Philippine government.

It said it prefers this to having one made in bad faith.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

In a report posted at www.luwaran.com, MILF Western Mindanao political officer Hassan Hatab said the MILF in Western Mindanao would not be worried if ever no agreement will be concluded under the regime of President Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo.

Hatab said it is better there would be no agreement than have a bad one, adding that the people of Western Mindanao are ready for any eventuality.

Hatab said the people of Western Mindanao "are now shifting their allegiance to the MILF," which he said deserved to be supported by all because it has a very clear agenda.

The MILF has been blaming the government for the delay in the peace talks. Some rebel commanders even warned that they are ready for another all-out war with the government if ever the peace talks bog down.

The MILF also accused the Arroyo government of "gaining much from the funds channeled through her government but intended for Muslim Mindanao."

Hatab said the government's so-called "plethora of economic aid and rehabilitation programs" for Mindanao is not from the Arroyo government but from donor countries like the United States of America, Japan, Canada, European Union, England, Malaysia, and Libya. (BOT)
