THE University of Mindanao (UM) Davao Team Rockets and the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP)-B shared top honors at the close of the Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte Araw ng Dabaw Men's Open and Women's Open Sepak Takraw Tournament at the City Hall Drive Monday.

Davao City Sepak Takraw Association (DCSTA) president Nilda Sebellino said Team Rockets edged UM Tagum, 2-1, to capture the men's championship trophy.

UM-A, which routed UM-B, 2-0, placed third while the latter finished fourth in the three-day competition presented by Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte through the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office under city sports coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go.

Composing Team Rockets are Michael Jan Gabayan, Joeben Aton, Marvin Abuela, and Armand Abuela with coach Clven Roy Mercado at the helm.

USEP-B, meanwhile, pocketed the women's title at the expense of Catalunan Grande National High School, which settled for the runner-up honors. Wangan Elementary School and USEP-A came third and fourth, respectively.

The Teorico dela Cruz-coached USEP-B women's team is composed of Melanie Amoy, Cathy Diana, Jerlyn Laurel and Edena Beriong.

Cash prizes and trophies were given away to the winners of the meet that also attracted teams from Digos, Panabo and other nearby cities and provinces. (MLSA)
